When a fit and flare dress or a classic pencil skirt just seems too stuffy, too serious, too not you– try a fun pant. I’ve been talking about my love for pants a lot lately–I just don’t feel like me in a super feminine silhouette, especially when it comes to my work wardrobe. I prefer to do it my own way. In something baggy. And shapeless.
Mixing it Up This Summer
Maybe it’s my freelance work at Retail Therapy or my age reminding me I can’t wear a short ho skirt anymore, but I tend to lean more oversized, baggy silhouttes–nothing too short and my favorite combination this summer is the wide leg pant and linen combo.
I used to roll into my entry level job in short skirts and platform heels–and fast forward 10 years, I’m remixing cropped wide leg pants with tunics and a cool pair of sneakers or platform oxfords. It’s fun to watch my style evolve, especially when it’s been documented weekly for almost nine years. I found a few pieces that I think are versatile, affordable pieces if you’re looking to change up your summer style, see below!
This crop pant from the Nordstrom Sale is available in plaid or black–and I have a pair in black so similar and they’re on a weekly rotation. And these easy, cotton blend green pants can be easily styled up or down, good for work or everyday wear–also on major sale at Nordstrom. This button down linen top is everything I want out of work shirt! I’m obsessed with linen tops this summer and I absolutely love this boxy, cropped button down version too.

Ah, I have a pair of similar wide-pants/culottes! I’m not much of a dress person as well, and I love the look of a pair of fancy pants. Bonus: they’re often super comfy too! 🙂
