Each year I seem to over plan my summers and have zero time for the things I love to do like visit county fairs, leisurely shop in town and grab ice cream. So this year I vow not to over plan and book out my weekends, be a little more spontaneous all while making sure I fit in everything below this summer:
Plan a Fun Camping Trip Close to Home
I bought my 1994 Ford Tioga motorhome last summer with the intention of taking it cross country, but it’s so damn old and I just don’t have that kind of time to dedicate to the road and traveling that far. BUT there are plenty of cool state parks and campgrounds in Michigan that aren’t too far of a drive for me to find some peace and quiet and unwind.
Better Landscape My Yard (on my own, not hiring anyone!)
I’ve gotten a couple quotes for landscaping and who knew that shit was SO expensive. I mean, I’ve watched HGTV shows and see bids come in for tens of thousands, but never thought one tiny spot in my front yard would cost an arm and a leg.
So my goal is to get my mom to come up and work with her and Matt on making some curb appeal updates to my home. I spent a lot last summer on updating my porch, door, shutters and lighting, but still lots to do.
Take a Day Off From Work and Head to Lake Michigan
I daydream and romanticize about trips to the beach and how I think I’ll easily fit it all in. The reality is that it never happens. Maybe once every other year I make to the beach and if I’n visiting during the weekend, it’s so busy that I’m miserable. I think taking a random Tuesday off to read by the beach in the sun sounds delightful. And my plan is to make it happen!
Head to a Few County Fairs and Outdoor Markets
Michigan has some of the best county fairs. I love them all big or small and again, I never make time to visit them. I love fair food, petting goats and sheep and visiting the horse barns and so I have marked a couple nearby county fairs on my calendar. I also love when there are outdoor markets at the county fairs or even on their own where I can buy locally produced goods and just learn about new cool shops in Michigan.
Attend An Outdoor Concert
I’m proud to say that I already bought my tickets to the country night at Common Ground Festival in Lansing. I will at the very least experience one outdoor concert this summer.
