I’m in Michigan’s Mackinac Island this week for a work conference (the Mackinac Policy Conference hosted by the Detroit Regional Chamber!) Mackinac is usually a little chillier than Lansing, and this week’s weather is a mix of 60s, rain and thunder. If you didn’t know, Mackinac Island is car-free. Everyone gets around by foot, horse or bicycle so it makes getting around a little more interesting when the weather is up in the air.
The bad news? I don’t want to trek around the island on foot with rain. The good news? I get to bust out lots of layers. Excited for it to feel like fall! Read on for what I packed:
What Clothing I Packed
Since I have dress up for the conference, I wanted to go against my normal prep and overpack. I packed two maxi length dresses, which I find super easy and simple to dress up and stay comfortable. One dress is leopard print (mine is old, but I own this one too and love) and one is a thicker knit dress in black ($35 find from Target!)
I’m thinking the lug sole loafer and Chanel combat boots will work with these and I brought a faux leather oversized vest (similar), leather jacket and a coatigan along with a tan puffer vest and cardigan just to mix up the basics I brought which include plain black pants, cream pants and these Levi’s jeans. I also brought an oversized camel sweater and an assortment of tank tops, which mix and match with everything I bought so I can switch it up based on my mood and the weather.
I also packed some comfy clothes for early morning walks and for traveling home (and maybe a bicycle ride around the island). This includes a couple pairs of joggers, an Anine Bing sweatshirt, my favorite grey Lululemon hoodie, my all time favorite ball cap and some basic tees.
The Shoes I Packed
I’m packing more shoes than usual since it will be rainy and my feet hurt lately and not sure what to do about it all. I packed my go-to Christian Louboutin heels that I’ve had for 10+ years and are finally comfortable, Prada lug sole loafers (similar pair here), Chanel combat boots, Balenciaga sneakers, rubber Teva sandals and comfy leopard mules (similar and on sale here.)
