ย A wifi-free, dirt-filled weekend is exactly what I needed. I brought my motorhome Fiona the Tioga out to the campground I spent my childhood summers at and it was a blast to head back 20 years later.
Camping Plans
We stayed at Woods and Waters RV Park in White Cloud, Michigan. This is the kind of camping I prefer–it’s rustic enough with trees and lake access, but offers amenities like a little ice cream shop, kayak rentals, a mini golf course and indoor showers. Matt and I met up with my parents who met us there with the motorhome and it was super easy to set up our campsite!
We had planned all of our meals plans like chicken and veggie stir fry on the grill and delicious breakfast meals like apple cinnamon pancakes and spicy hash browns with sausage and eggs.
And beyond that, we didn’t plan much else. We went with the flow, which is against my nature, but exactly what I needed.
Turning off for the weekend
I didn’t fully intend to disconnect last weekend, but the campsite didn’t offer wifi and I had no choice. Nothing like being forced to disconnect!
Since I work full time, take on freelance projects and run the blog, it doesn’t take much for me to feel overwhelmed and stressed if I don’t work seven days a week to keep up.
Let’s be real though, I still edited these photos on the camp site early before Matt woke up, checked Instagram and answered emails because that’s what keeps me sane!
Overall, it was relaxing to not be tethered to my laptop and be fully present, wandering by the lake by myself, spending time with Matt and the fam and meeting all kinds of cute dogs including two cavvies named Fanny and Paisley.
Camping Style
I kept my packing light with items that mix and match and layer easily for chilly nights and hot days. I packed two pairs of denim shorts, three tees, a sweatshirts, leggings, joggers and a denim jacket–and just one pair of sandals! I wore everything I packed besides my swimsuit and pretty much nailed the packing portion of the camping trip. Tee c/o CHRLDR | pants from Target (wearing oatmeal, just $20) | Free People jacket from Sparrow Boutique | Birkenstock sandals
