I’ve been itching for an afternoon of wandering Grand Rapids to eat and shop and since I get summer Fridays (half days), I decided to take a spontaneous trip with my co-worker/friend Emily.
I’m close to burn out in every aspect of life and if I was smarter, I would’ve stayed home to get more work and house tasks done, but I needed an afternoon of eating fro yo and burgers, and time away from my computer screen.
I styled this look for work while we’re in this weird in-between season of feeling over summer, ready for fall–but it’s still hot AF.
Fall Transitional Style
Like every year, I’m antsy to wear my favorite season’s clothes and skip past the last month of summer. I just bought this summery top from Sparrow Boutique with every intention of wearing it year round.
Just a couple elements makes this transitional to fall, but still great for summer: jeans + a bit of corduroy! Camel tones always read fall to me and adding the bag with sandals felt fall, but also practical for the weather and the activity of shopping.
A few elements to consider for your transitional wardrobe:
Light Wash Denim
Light wash jeans are a perfect trade in for shorts–still feels lighter, but not too heavy like darker washes of denim. This cropped, distressed pair from Elodie Boutique are super breathable too and stretchy, which is necessary on a hot day when you’re over shorts like I am. And BDG jeans from Urban Outfitters are 30 percent off right now and lots of light denim options.
The Shoe Choice
While I opted for sandals for this look, I think boots make any summer outfit look ready for fall. Summer dresses are instantly refreshed with a pair of suede ankle boots. I’m loving the Lucky Brand boots I scooped up from the Nordstrom sale and I love all the Lucky ankle boots here too.
The Right Accessories
I’ve traded in my straw hats for a corduroy lieutenant hat and this instantly changed the outfit for me. Like last year, I’m still into this style of hat along with wool and felt hat with wider brims. I love all the hats that Free People has on their site right now! I also love Lack of Color wool hats–I have a handful of theirs and wear them all the time!
Also love camel/cognac colored accessories, especially handbags for fall and fall transition. This leather backpack is beautiful and this vegan leather version is much more budget-friendly. This leather tote comes in some pretty colors and has been on shopping list for a while!
