This post is sponsored by Wayfair Summers in Michigan are always deeply appreciated. Just a month ago, we had snow here and now it’s finally warm enough to decorate my backyard and host friends and family. I don’t have much space here, but I make the most of my outdoor entertaining area with versatile seating options and adding color and texture with plants and textiles. Read on for tips for decorating a small outdoor space:
Seating Options
There isn’t much space back here for too many chairs and so I opted to incorporate two ottomans for additional seating, or just a way to kick my feet up if it’s just me, James and Matt. The striped ottoman holds up well with the elements, but the textured pouf is brought in every night with the cushions and pillows to keep it dry.
Add Plants to Give the Space Life
Plants are an easy way to add color and vibrancy, but if you’re like me, you need them to be able to survive neglect. I have a mix of plants that are hardy, but need varying levels of sunlight and they’re arranged in a way back there for optimal sun or lack of sun needs. I love incorporating ferns, herbs like basil and a little color with flowers, plus I mix in a few faux plants like these faux succulents that are mixed within to make it easy for my brown thumb to manage the plants!
Add Color and Texture with Textiles
Since my home is a boring tan and the deck is a boring brown, I love to make the most of this little dark space with color! I typically layer rugs for that bohemian vibe, added this green banana leaf table runner for a pop of color (just $11), rugs (this red rug will be added underneath) and lots of outdoor pillows and throw blankets for both comfort and aesthetics.
Now, It’s Ready for Entertaining
Once you’ve gotten the space ready, it’s time to add in a few entertaining items like wine glasses. I personally prefer <arel=”nofollow” href=”https://www.wayfair.com/kitchen-tabletop/pdp/mint-pantry-dunn-12-oz-all-purpose-wine-glass-mntp1481.html?cjevent=154c549b818411e9814b052c0a24060f&refID=CJ687298-CJ2975314&PID=CJ4441350&experiencetype=2&selectedvertical=3″>all purpose wine glasses that can be used with anything and perhaps a wood and marble cheese plate like this one.
