It’s been a more stressful time than usual with buying and selling a home and managing the new normal which still doesn’t feel so normal. Here are three ways I’m working to improve my mental health at the moment:
Stay Active (despite COVID)
I’m pretty much only motivated to work out in an actual fitness class setting where someone leads it and tells me what to do. Or even a gym where I’m surrounded by equipment to at least keep my body moving.
It’s been difficult at home with even the weights, stationary bike and other accessories I bought to workout at home along with virtual classes. I’ve gained weight, I feel the weakest I’ve ever been and I haven’t had the proper outlet to improve my physical and mental well being.
SO now that outdoor classes are allowed in Michigan, I’m trying to do that 2-3 times a week along with my morning long walks, plus additional long walks in pretty areas with the dogs that keep me moving. I feel so much better when I exercise as hard as it is for me to keep myself motivated on my own!
Journal + Plan Your Calendar
I’ve mentioned this before, but every Sunday, I update my passion planner with the new week’s goals, plans and to do list. And I reflect on the week before and carry anything over I didn’t accomplish. This has helped me mentally feel like I’m productive. I can actually see the work from the week before I’ve accomplished and refocus for the next week. As an Enneagram 3 wing 4, productivity and staying busy is one of my top priorities and this is necessary for me.
This planner also has monthly reflections that asks questions like what are you most proud of from the previous month, what areas of improvement do you want to address in the future, etc.
Doing More Things that Make Me Happy
With COVID, I can’t do all the things I love to do, but I do make time for trips to Target, grabbing coffee and donuts for pick up and will be camping in my RV. All things that bring me joy and normalcy right now. I also love working so I’ve been taking on extra projects and new ventures like renting out my RV and more socially distanced photography work.
I’ve also gotten more of my normal appointments in like hair color and cut, manicure and pedicure and even a spray tan. Keeping up on my routines also make me happy and feel more like myself! Everywhere I go take all the precautions for safety and I happily wear my mask.
I’ve also spent more time on educational activities like buying courses (like Avery’s passive income creator), LinkedIn Learning (my workplace bought this for us and it’s great) and other free or affordable webinars. I sign up for it all right now!

This is never been more necessary! If I don’t at least go for a small walk around my neighborhood during the day, I feel like I’m going to lose my mind. Thank you for the reminder to put mental health first. <3
