There are three key beauty services that make me feel and look my best before an event where I want to appear naturally beautiful, effortless and low key like a music festival, concert or outdoor wedding this time of year.
Tip #1 Spray Tan It
A spray tan is the quickest way to look flawless, but not all spray tans were created equal. I’ve had my fair share of shitty ones in booths and I’m no hurry to return to one. If you know a good one in Michigan, I’m all ears, but for now I’ll leave it to Kalyn of K & K Airbrush Tanning who makes house calls to airbrush me. If you live in the greater Lansing area, I highly recommend her. I could sing her praises all day!
Tip #2 Blow It Out
Sometimes it’s easy to just let my hair air dry and let it be especially if the weather is expected to be crappy and rainy. But if the sun gods shine upon your head and you want to look a little more polished, make the tiny investment to let a pro take care of your locks before something fun like a concert or wedding (even if you aren’t in the wedding, why not!)
Blowouts for my hair last around 5 days and so I love to plan them around a weekend of activities. Like for this particular weekend, I had a wedding, blog photo work and a concert to attend. I stretched the blowout to cover several events and I felt so pulled together.
I love Kaelyn at Salon 219 in Grand Ledge if locals are looking for a great spot for a blowout! These photos were three days out from the blowout and look how great the curl stayed!
Tip #3 Add Lash Extensions
Sadly, I can’t have these right now since my eyes said fuck off and had an intense allergic reaction, but if your eyes aren’t wonky like mine, they are worth it. When I have a spray tan and lashes, I don’t need any make up at all and that’s the kind of look I like for a music festival–low key and “natural”!
I love Desiree at the Standard and Brenna in Grand Rapids–I’ve known her for years, haven’t personally visited her, but her work is so impressive!

I’m a huge fan of Amanda’s Airbrush Tanning in Rochester. It’d be a bit of a drive for you, but just in case you’re ever in the area! Super sweet girls.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Right there with you on keeping things light and “effortless” for these summertime activities. I’ve been so curious about getting lash extensions. I see some and they look lovely. Others can look a little too wild. Like oh, you’re clearly so fake. Admittedly, I don’t know anything about them! So when you got them (and before your reaction) what did you ask for? How did it work?
Andrea says
Yes, you can do volume lashes or ones that look much more natural! I find that I started with the natural look and got hungry for more intense lashes as time passed! I switched from volume to regular lash extensions though since they weighed my lashes down and I just asked for a natural look with one lash extension per eyelash instead of more (which is the volume lash version) Your first trip there will be the longest so you can get the full set added, and then every two to three weeks you visit for an hour long fill!
