I figured I should do a post like this since I just assume everyone knows my life somehow.
- I grew up on a small hobby farm showing horses in 4-H, competing in my local high school equestrian team (I was the only one on the team the first year we started it!) My first horse was an asshole pony named Jesse James who would turn around and bite my feet when I was on his back. The second horse I showed was my mom’s favorite horse, an Arabian named Travis. He loved to run and do bunny hops when you tried to do backyard jumping–basically everything I was not interested in. My third horse was the perfect fit, an Appaloosa named Cissy and she was such a wonderful horse to ride. She was terrified of everything from mailboxes to plastic bags, but she loved to show in small local shows and we always did well together. I grew up wanting nothing to do with animals because of the labor and dirt it involved, but I finally got my own dog four years ago and now I have my own horse who’s at my mom’s barn. Slowly growing the herd.
- I’m embarrassingly picky with food. I hate all condiments (the smell of mayonnaise makes me want to vomit) and this includes salad dressings and basically anything of that texture. Fruits and veggies are not my favorites, but over the years I’ve been able to identify a small handful of veggies I can actually enjoy. Fruits are still so hard for me. I can eat an apple if forced. I also can’t finish anything I eat. There’s always a chunk of a burger left or a pile of pasta left on my plate–and it usually looks mangled like a child played with their food.
- I’m an introvert–more specifically an ISTJ (gotta love that Meyer Briggs personality test. I force everyone I know to take this so I can better understand them.) I share the same personality type as George H.W. Bush (and even Eddard Stark if you’re a big GoT fan like me you get it) and I probably should have chased a career in military or police work instead of public relations. I enjoy order, stability, efficiency and my weaknesses include stubbornness, insensitivity and being too by the book.
- I have a soft spot in my heart for country music. I grew up on it and I know all of the old shit and frankly, I love all the new hits. All my XM stations are programmed to country besides one alt station.
- My favorite movie(s) of all time is Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (and then, of course, the next two in the trilogy.) My grandparents forced me to see the first one when I was 15 and I was enamored with the movie immediately. And the next two years of the movie release, I skipped school to see it opening day in theaters. I also believe my love for a bearded, hairy, dirty man came from the movie thanks to Aragorn’s disheveled appearance.
- I have a single chin hair that rapidly grows. Her name is Margaret.
- In the last ten years of my career, I’ve changed jobs six times. I’m thankful my current employer Martin Waymire took a chance on this flight risk–I’ve been there for almost three years! I work in public relations and I’ve dabbled in different areas of marketing/communications/advertising/PR over the years. Not sure what I like most yet. I’m still young, I can figure it out.
- My hair is naturally super curly. Longtime followers and friends may know that already, but with age, it’s calmed so much and I now also do keratin treatments to smooth out the frizz. I’ve also mentioned this before, but I’m 1/4 pacific islander and inherited my coarse hair from my father’s side of the family.
- I cry all the goddamn time. I’ve always considered myself a hard ass. I didn’t cry at weddings or over sad stories or movies. And now I weep over commercials or quick ads that pop up on Facebook. Simply seeing a short video of a wedding proposal or looking at my dog draws tears to my eyes. I like to think I’m much more considerate and empathetic with age, and the opposite of weak.
- I have two tattoos. Once I had the epiphany that I could get tattoos without sentiment, I was in. I got the first one on New Year’s Eve 2011 in Nashville and it was just a horse outline on my wrist to see if I could stomach the pain of a larger tattoo. I survived that one. A couple months later in 2012, I started my quarter sleeve.

Oh my God, your childhood on the farm sounds like a dream for me. I’m a horse fanatic and rode for more than eight years, but had to stop because it’s a REALLY expensive sport in Hong Kong… 🙁 let’s swap childhoods haha!

I love this post! I, too, am a flight risk with jobs (my resume is 2 pages and only dates back to 2015) so I totally understand how hard it is to find an employer who wants to take a risk because of the potential of only being there for a few months or a year. It’s honestly comforting to hear someone else say that they’re the same.

I love hearing more about you 🙂 Gonna try taking that test. Lord of the Ring trilogy is also my favorite movie, I can’t choose which one is the best.
