As I’ve mentioned before, I’m not the most eco-conscious person but by partnering with Maddy and Mel this year, I’m continuing to hold myself to monthly challenges that we set to be just a little bit more sustainable–small steps make all the difference!
The 2020 Challenges So Far
January was all about using reusable cups (and continue that through each month) and February was all about reusable bags which I really struggled with. Anyone else make the effort and buy the bags only to forget them at home?
The challenges so far have helped me realize how much worse I was than I thought I was, but small changes like bringing my Contigo water bottle (under $10 and the best water bottle out there) everywhere has helped cut out water bottles. I have coffee mugs that I always forget to take with me to the coffee shop, but luckily when I forget (which is 100% of the time), I have time to get it in a mug or glass and drink at the shop without using a disposable cup.
And I’m still working on the reusable bags–my one way to help with this is to take a big tote with me so if I do forget, most of the time I can fit my things in my own bag! Or if it’s just a couple things I just ask for no bag and carry it out to my car.
The March Challenge: Less Wasteful in the Bathroom
This month’s challenge is all about being more conscious of the bathroom area–using less water, swapping out wasteful, disposable bathroom products for reusable and recyclable versions. Need more specific ideas? Try these reusable make up pads instead of make up wipes or these reusable bamboo cotton rounds, recycled toilet paper and/or recyclable q-tips. Even swapping out disposable soap dispensers for refillable ones like this $12 glass set is a great start.
Traveling? You can use stasher bags instead of plastic bags for traveling with your toiletries. And travel size reusable containers. They’re come a long way in style and color options than when I purchased mine several years back!
There are so many ways to cut down on waste in the bathroom, but the goal is to take small steps and start by implementing just a couple of these changes.

I think it’s great that you’re making these swaps! I’ve been trying to be more sustainable too! 🙂

I’ve been embracing a reusable lifestyle too this year. And i feel that I should have started it sooner. I’ll gonna use your suggestions on reusable and recyclable versions of products to use in the bathroom. Thanks for this! 🙂
