Oversized Everything, Please
I’ve been gravitating towards tunics and oversized anything lately, which is why I love this olive top so much. I find that even if a shirt is meant to be fitted, I find myself ordered up a couple sizes to get the fit I prefer. With this top, I went from a small to medium for extra slouchiness!
Getting Outside My Comfort Zone + Meeting New People
I co-hosted a styling event with Elodie Boutique last weekend and I love how it motivates me to put myself out there, meeting new people and visiting new cities and towns. I classify myself as a typical introvert. I’m not socially inept, I just draw my energy from being alone and that alone time is what re-energizes me! I can feel a little exhausted from too much social activity, but sometimes it occasionally seems to reinvigorate me. If I’m thoughtful with how I approach social opportunities, I find that it’s actually rewarding for me and it helps me meet new people and cultivate meaningful friendships. And sharing a few tips below:
- Get out of the small talk and ask real questions! There is nothing more exhausting to an introvert than small talk. Ask thoughtful questions and make it more interesting. When I was at Elodie, I asked the owner Christina about how she met her husband. I Facebook stalked her in advance of the event and saw a couple beautiful wedding photos and I truly love hearing people’s stories of how they met their partners. I’m nosy! I learn so much more about people when I ask the right questions and it’s much more rewarding.
- Start the convo online! Sending a quick message on Instagram or email to set up coffee or drinks with new people is always the best way for me to connect with new or old friends. I really don’t like talking on the phone, but sending a quick message online is convenient and quick to do. I also always agree to meeting with new bloggers, photographers or students who want to meet in person for tips and career insight. I think it’s important to help others and I’ve made many friends in the process like My Casual Mom.
- Take the initiative to make time in person, one-on-one. I’m not usually super excited about big events or large parties. I prefer one on one time to get to know people, but it involves me making the effort to set it up. I’m not always the best at taking initiative and making time to build new friendships, but I’m working on taking the initiative to set up lady dates! This includes checking in with newer friends via text, commenting on their social platforms–generally showing interest in their lives.

I love these tips! Much more thoughtful and helpful than a lot of the other advice out there regarding introversion. I’m finding that the older I get, the less of an effort I make to meet new people , especially after being exhausted from the work week. Definitely gonna try putting these into practice 🙂
