I’m not the biggest blazer fan, but the peachy color of this one lured me in. Challenge accepted.
Neutral Shades
I resisted the natural urge to wear some element of black and wore only shades of peachy tans. The look was well outside my comfort zone, but I was feelin’ myself in something a little less haggard than normal.
And I find it interesting to find out what people find to be within or outside their style comfort zone. I have friends who embrace a preppy style who aren’t comfortable wearing moto jackets and it’s hard to relate in those situations since that’s exactly what I love to wear–and what feels like me! Then I throw on a simple, pretty blazer and I feel as if I’ve completely moved outside my style boundaries. To help make this more my style though I wore distressed jeans and an oversized tee, both of which I wear on the regular with a leather jacket.
Making the Most of the Third Piece Rule
To help me feel more comfortable in wearing pieces outside of my typical style, I find it easiest to venture into new territory by incorporating a third piece that can slowly be integrated into a wardrobe, like a blazer.
Unfamiliar with the third piece rule? It means that third piece you add to complete a look in addition to your first and second piece (top and pants.) It can be that final piece to tie the look together or add a little more pizazz. And this is what causes the greatest stress for me when I’m getting dressed. I generally know my basic layers, it’s that third piece! And it’s the perfect opportunity to try out something outside your comfort zone.
Sale Picks (that fulfill the third piece rule!)
I love this navy blazer that’s half off. I would size up so it would be a little more slouchy!
This reversible vest comes in three colors (and a hood!)
This grey hat from Banana Republic by Eugenia Kim (WAY more affordable than her line! woo!) Plus 40% off your purchase with code BR4U. And this stripe neckerchief. Lots of great accessories and blazers here!
Madewell has some great sales too like this flannel cape that’s half off (PLUs an extra 30% off with code META30.) Also digging this geometric scarf!
Loft is offering 40% off their site with code WEEKEND and might be the time to snag this camo jacket that my friend Brooke already owns! I already own this belted poncho and it’s been the perfect piece to wear to stay warm and look effortlessly stylish.

Definitely start off small and get a colorful clutch, then a bright pair of shoes and go from there! You look great!

That’s a gorgeous blazer and it looks amazing on you. Blazers aren’t really my thing either but that one is super pretty and nowadays there’s such an array of different styles and looks that I might even try one out this season.
