I walked into Retail Therapy for the first time just over four years ago and have been smitten with the shop ever since. I learned more about slow fashion and why spending a little more on a high quality piece mattered. Plus, I’ve always loved the funky silhouettes of some of the lines she carries like Japanese brand Moyuru, Chicago designer Cynthia Ashby and Gershon Bram.
I’ve been doing freelance photography and social media work for the shop and it’s been exciting to be behind the scenes at buying trips in New York City, trying on new items before they’re set out on the floor and meeting some of the cool ladies who frequent the shop.
The Look
Everything I’m wearing is from Retail Therapy from the grey harem pants to black maxi top to Trippen wedge booties! These are three of my favorite pieces I’ve gotten from the shop. Plus, I love the Uno de 50 line and I threw on one of the new bracelets for the photos.
Oh and the Quay sunglasses–my favorite sunglasses line and I was actually with Celeste on a buying trip to New York City when I pointed out the line to Celeste. Still feel very proud of being the one to help introduce it to the shop!
The Shop
Retail Therapy recently moved down the street in Lansing’s historic Old Town into the most beautiful, well-lit space with lots of character at 604 E. Cesar E. Chavez Ave.
Celeste carries mostly American-made apparel, with some lines from varying European countries and Japan. The designers and brands she carries follow sustainable and ethical production practices, something Celeste feels very strongly about. The shop also carries jewelry, accessories like handbags, sunglasses and hats and shoes.
A New Series to Share Women-Owned Businesses
I hope to start this series of highlighting women owned businesses and still working on a title for it. I’m thinking Commanding Ladies or something…not quite sure but I hope to continue to highlight women who are doing cool shit since that’s what I love reading and hearing about and who I like working with.
Celeste, the store owner, is the best dressed person I know. James is allowed to visit the shop. He loves staring out the window!
