Happy holiday weekend, fellow Americans! I’ve spent the last couple days celebrating my freedom visiting family and friends near Lake Michigan. This involved two cities: St. Joseph, a busy and populated tourist attraction and Muskegon, the polar opposite of St. Joe. My mom and I visited Pere Marquette, a beach I prefer because it’s just as pretty as Silver Beach in St. Joe and expansive, but no sea of people to navigate around.

I bought my first swimsuit cover up this summer and holy shit, it’s a game changer. I appreciate anything that simplifies my life and now I just throw this on over my swimsuit and I’m good to go.

For a typical beach or pool day, I pack two sunscreens: one high SPF (Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF 55 c/o Meijer) for my tattoo and a lower one because I care less about the rest of my skin even though I should care just as much. I also pack a stack of magazines. Lately, it’s been Women’s Health and Self, which I read while snacking on all the sweet chili Doritos and string cheese I pack with me.

    I love Pere Marquette so much. I went there on Friday and it was so nice to see it wasn't overcrowded and full of screaming children. It was an awesome beach weekend! Love your coverup, I think I'm going to take your advice and go get one ASAP. Being that I'm lazy as it is, being able to throw a quick layer over my swimsuit sounds stellar.

    Those are breathtakingly beautiful pics! Your long, blonde locks go great in that floppy hat.

    You're a very pretty woman, and imho you resemble (a cross between) Christina Aguelira and Gwen Stefani.

    I haven't been to the beach in 15 years and my dermatologist could tell when he was looking at my skin. The only thing is, too much of anything is not good, including the sun.

    It's imperative to get your moles checked every year (every 6 months if sun cancer runs in your family).
