I’ve upgraded my skincare in the new year since I just wasn’t seeing the results I wanted to see with the random products I used and the inconsistent routine. So now I’m on a consistent morning and nighttime routine with a few new products. Read on for the details:
New Skincare
I upgraded to a medical skincare line called Zo Skin Health by Zein Obaji. It took a bit of convincing from the owner of a local medical spa I frequent for botox and filler. She gave me a free travel kit which is what I’m still using consisting of the exfoliating cleanser, exfoliating polish, pH balancer toner and daily power defense. I bought the full size retinol product called retinol skin brightener at Nectar in Dewitt. It’s just .5% retinoid to start with for now. If you’re local, you can purchase them in person.
I’ve also started using Kiehl’s overnight hydrating face mask. My skin has been so flaky with the retinol plus the dry winter air (and my beloved hot showers.) And this product has been incredible on my dry, flaky skin. I use at least a couple times a night and I wake up with smooth skin.
I’m also still loving Kiehl’s ultra face cream. I use this product as my daily moisturizer, I mix it with my go-to face self tanner Tan Luxe and mix it with my tinted moisturizer for a more natural make up look.
The Routine
So every night I shower and wash my face and 2-3 times a week, I use the exfoliating polish, especially on nights I plan to use the self tanner on my face. Next, I apply the toner. On self tanning nights, I then mix the moisturizer with three drops of the self tanner and massage onto my face and neck. The end. On retinol nights, I follow the toner with a serum (usually the Kiehl’s midnight recovery concentrate), the daily power defense lotion and moisturizer (I also like this Dr. Jart moisturizer, great for sensitive skin), then apply the retinol last.
In the morning, I skip cleansing my skin and go straight to the toner, vitamin c serum, daily power defense, moisturizer or face oil, and SPF if I remember (harder to remember in the winter although I’ve been using the Supergoop glowscreen sunscreen in place of a tinted moisturizer.)
One thing I’d like to get more consistent at is eye cream, but right now, this new routine contains more steps than ever before so I’m starting with fewer products to build this habit and routine!
