My haircare routine has changed dramatically in the last couple years and even more so in the last several months. I remember when my hair was incredibly voluminous, curly and thick, and healthy..and as I’ve aged (and possibly COVID?), I’ve lost a lot of the volume and a lot of hair, plus the curl and I’m trying to grow it a little longer for the wedding next June. Here’s my latest hair routine:
My Hair Now
So my hair is medium length right now, and I’ve lost quite a bit of hair in the last couple years so it’s not as thick as it once was. I currently have one row of sewn in hair extensions that I love to add some body and a little length. It’s gotten more brittle despite the regular haircuts and less coloring/bleach. And I also have at least one grey hair on my part that stands straight up at any given time.
Haircare + Supplements
To help my hair get back to its old self, I’ve started taking Nutrafol just this week. It’s four large capsules a day that kills me but I’m hoping to see results like everyone else seems to experience. I also use an assortment of Aveda shampoos and conditioners–mostly the scalp benefits, brilliance and rosemary mint lines.
I wash my hair once a week or less with extensions, and without extensions, my hair looks crusty and sad quicker so usually twice a week without extensions.
Styling Tools
I partially air dry my hair and then blow dry with Dyson dryer. My favorite way to style my hair at the moment that’s easy and low key is using the Bondi Boost wave wand. Adds some much needed volume and an effortless wave.
Extension Info
I get my sewn in extensions from Kaelyn of Flaxen Salon. She’s a wonderful and talented stylist in Lansing’s Old Town. She orders the hair, you pay and then you pay to have them sewn in. Initially, she cut them to blend with my hair and cut a bit of my own hair to get them to blend the best. When you have your extensions removed, she doesn’t charge a fee and she can store your extensions too. You can get them moved up right away, but I tend to get them removed for a break after six weeks..and give myself a month off and add them back.
