Winter Hibernation turns Spring Recharge
I was such a lazy blob this winter. I felt like I needed some sort of extended hibernation after such a busy 2018, especially that last quarter with work, blog projects and freelance photography gigs. I took advantage of the cold, snowy days and caught up on TV shows and ate junk food on the couch with James. But now I’m feeling alive again and ready for a spring recharge.
More Walks Outside
I’m back to my routine of a nightly mile walk with James. I’ve included Matt on these walks and the foster dog, Ruby, that I’m babysitting while her foster family is out of the country.
It’s finally warming up and Matt and I just stay in the neighborhood looking at the houses we like and talking about what our respective dream houses look like. I’m going to start incorporating more walks during the work day too. This always helps me de-stress, plus James loves getting out and about.
Overall, my goal is to be more active and move more, whether it’s more workouts, increasing my distance on daily dog walks or walking to more of my work meetings. Now that the weather is better, I have no excuses!
Making Time for Social Fun
I usually prefer spending time by myself, but I’ve been itching to get out more lately, meet new people and explore new or old interests. A big thing that’s helped with putting myself out there has been becoming an instructor at FLEXcity Fitness. I’m meeting new people each class I teach and when we do training/meetings as a team, it’s another chance for me to meet other instructors in Grand Rapids.
This might not be someone’s version of social fun, but it’s mine! I hate bars and staying out late, so I rarely participate in nighttime drinking activities.
Planning Trips (but not overscheduling!)
This is such a tough balance for me. I either over schedule myself and have all my weekends jam-packed with mini trips and plans or I’m a recluse for three weekends in a row.
So this spring/summer I’m looking to be more thoughtful in my planning to visit friends I haven’t visited in a while like my bestie Courtney in Pittsburgh before she has her baby in July, a work trip to Phoenix in April and bringing my mom to check out the Grand Canyon and sprinkling in long weekends for camping with my motor home.

I think I need to make more social plans too, now that it’s springtime! Stop holing up in my room and binge-watching shows, haha! 🙂

I was pretty lazy this winter as well, I had a “9 to 5” job for a couple of months and I think having to leave the house in cold rainy mornings got me into a terrible mood and I didn’t want to do anything all day before or after work.
