I’ve made a slow transition from mindlessly buying fast fashion to being more discriminating and intentional with my clothing and accessory purchases. In my 20s, I bought a lot of crap and now that I’m close to 37 (and I can afford to) I’m making fewer, but better quality purchases. Here are a few of my recent buys that will stand the test of time.
Shoes
I love a designer shoe–and picking pieces that I know I will get a ton of wear out of. I’m hard on my shoes and everything I wear so I have a shoe cobbler I regularly visit to repair shoes, bags and belts. I most recently bought the Chanel ballet flats and a classic loafer style. I wear flats and sneakers the most so I don’t usually splurge on a heel, but I do have a pair of Christian Louboutin pigalle pumps from 10+ years ago that have been repaired over the years and have gotten the cost per wear down to probably pennies.
I also have a pair of Celine sneakers that are worn in high rotation. I’ve been wanting more New Balance sneakers, but trying to stop buying extra shoes that aren’t necessary and the Celine sneakers are so comfortable and I love the look of them.
Bags
I recently sold a couple bags and small leather goods I wasn’t using with the hope I’ll get this bucket bag or something else I can use regularly everyday. For secondhand purchases, I shop Fashionphile or individual sellers on this Facebook group. I typically research the resale market before I buy anything and will buy pre-loved if there are significant savings. If it’s maybe a couple hundred dollars savings, it doesn’t make sense to me and I’ll buy new (I think ahead to if and when I might resell myself and if I can have the original packaging, receipt, etc it’s worth it to me!)
Small Leather Goods
I upgraded my wallet with this Celine canvas wallet. It’s the perfect size for everyday use and fits in most of my bags. I also bought this Anderson belt. I originally bought a Celine belt but it was just too expensive and exchanged it for the Anderson belt which is still pricy at $160, but a hell of a lot more affordable than Celine. I wanted a belt option with gold hardware that looked a little dressier.
