My Half Bath Updates + Spring Cleaning Routine
This post has been sponsored by Soft Scrub®. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Ever since I took the plunge to home ownership in 2016, I have 1,400 square feet all mine to clean and upkeep, including a half bath and full bathroom. I’m in the process of refreshing both bathrooms and I’ve tackled the small, DIY projects in the downstairs half bath.
And truthfully, I love this new phase of my life where deep cleaning, making small updates and organizing bathrooms excite me! It’s been such a sense of accomplishment to do all of these things in my own home. Read on for more details to my half bath updates, my spring cleaning routine ,and how I’ve made small bathroom organization tweaks and the products I grab from Walmart for cleaning ease!
Half Bath Updates + Cleaning Routine
When I first moved into the house, the walls were a deep blue/turquoise tone with a toilet seat sporting a couple of red foxes. Not exactly my style. And the room felt even smaller with the dark wall color. It took me over a year to get to this bathroom project, but I found that a couple small updates and a more routine bathroom cleaning schedule made all the difference.
To brighten the space, I chose a light blush color to paint the walls and the ceiling. It just freshened up the space and is complementary to the penny floor. I replaced the toilet seat cover with a simple white cover and updated the outlet covers. Easy décor details like a small framed print adds a pop of color along with a cute soap dispenser and better organization in the built-in cabinet storage.
To properly clean, I’ve incorporated Soft Scrub® Alpine Fresh Duo Cubes, Soft Scrub Cleanser with Bleach and Alpine Fresh Rim Hangers into my toilet cleaning. I’ve always used the Soft Scrub Cleanser with Bleach, but I love the idea of a product doing the work for me, cutting down my own laborious cleaning efforts. The Soft Scrub® Alpine Fresh Duo Cubes go right in-tank as an automatic toilet cleaner, fighting toilet ring and limescale stains. I’ve always trusted the Soft Scrub® line to properly clean bathrooms, especially the Soft Scrub Cleanser with Bleach, which is EPA regulated. I snagged the products quickly from Walmart—in and out with self-check out!
There is also an Ibotta offer for Soft Scrub products at Walmart! Save now using this offer.
Right now, I use Sundays as my cleaning day, cleaning the toilets with the Soft Scrub Cleanser with Bleach (my bathrooms look and smell clean/fresh!), sweeping and dusting and wiping down the sinks and toilet seats—plus restocking towels and other toiletries I keep on open shelves.
Spring Cleaning + Organizing
With my upstairs bathroom, I’ve struggled to keep my cleaning products and toiletries organized. And I find that each spring, the bathroom storage areas become messy, sticky and disorganized. To improve bathroom organization, I did the following:
- Start fresh by taking everything off the shelves and out of the cabinet storage
- Wipe down the shelves and storage areas
- Toss out old products and rogue cotton balls that have accumulated
- Purchase new baskets to store cleaning supplies and toiletries (I bought new white baskets, vanity organizers and clear containers)
- Install the Soft Scrub® Alpine Fresh Rim Hanger upstairs
My plan next with the upstairs full bathroom is to complete a tub re-glazing, new shower tile and eventually new floor tile! In the meantime, keeping it clean, reorganized and freshly de-cluttered really makes all the difference.
