It seemed almost too good to be true when I read about the Dyson Airstrait and bought it as soon as it launched, hoping I wouldn’t love it and return it just as I did with the Dyson Airwrap. Nope. I love it. Here’s why:
Why I bought the Dyson Airstrait
I bought the tool since it promised to do the job of a blow dryer and straightener as a wet to dry flat iron, giving me smooth hair with one step, as opposed to several steps which I was currently doing.
I had my wedding extensions in when I bought the Airstrait and it was incredibly hard to dry it all even with the Dyson blowdryer and keep it looking smooth. I would have to blow dry it, straighten parts to further smooth and then use a curling iron. I was hoping to eliminate steps and save time, and the Airstrait instantly impressed me after using for the first time.
My Hair Type/Texture
I have thick, naturally wavy, coarse hair that easily frizzes, and I have a lot of it. I do get Brazilian blowouts which helps keep my hair frizz free. This hair does not dry smooth and shiny on its own and it also doesn’t look smooth and shiny with only blowdrying it dry, it always requires something else for it look done.
The Pros
The Airstrait does save me so much time with styling my hair. I still need to rough dry my roots with the blowdryer, but I do that for maybe four minutes and then it takes under 10 to smooth and dry the rest of the strands (without extensions now.) In under 15 minutes now, my hair looks done as opposed to 40+ minutes.
Before the Airstrait if I wanted super smooth hair, I’d have to fully dry my hair and it would always look like a hot mess since I’m not capable of round brushing my own hair to make it smooth, and then run a straightening iron through it which took forever and I didn’t like the look of super straight hair that process gave me. This one tool helps me achieve a natural, smooth finish. I get compliments on my hair whenever I use it!
No heat damage is another big pro. I can achieve the look I want with my hair without the damage and my hair feels and looks healthy.
The Cons
The price. It’s an expensive tool but I believe if you have similar hair texture and don’t know how to round brush your own hair, this tool is 100% worth it. It saves so much time and has made my hair washing days no longer dreadful.
The size. It’s not tiny and when I need to pack it with me for a trip, I have to take this and the blowdryer and it ends up taking up so much space.
Wet roots. I may not have mastered this yet to get my roots dry, but I do need the blowdryer still. Not a deal breaker at all though.
Above: half my hair is smooth and straight and the other half is untouched, wet, wavy and a little unkempt!
