I planned a long weekend/vacation to northern Michigan to visit Mackinac Island and Marquette–and all the cool things in between! My parents joined me on this adventure, which encouraged me to do more outdoorsy things–but first Mackinac Island–the little haven of horse-drawn carriages, colorful shops and fudge galore.
Island Style
I fell in love with these linen overalls right when I laid eyes on them last month at Retail Therapy. Apparently, everyone else has to since they’re sold out everywhere. I think the store may have a size large left, but it’s completely sold out everywhere.
The island is much cooler than the rest of the state it seems. Even when it was 90something degrees everywhere else, it was in the low 70s there and knew a look like this would be more practical, and comfortable no matter how hot or cold it got last Friday. I styled it with a white crop top, super comfortable Dansko sandals and these oversized hoop earrings I can’t stop wearing.
We wandered the main street and the shops then we grabbed a delicious dinner at Mary’s Bistro on the patio and watched the ferries come and go before we headed up to check out the Grand Hotel. My stepdad had never been to the island before so we had lots to tour during our few hours there.
There are no cars on the island–so patrons walk, bike or travel by horse!
The shore around the island is beautiful. The water is clear and easy to perch on a rock to enjoy the views.
A bench by Fort Mackinac. A great park to eat a picnic and take in the views.
