It’s been around 1.5 years since I’ve last visited Detroit and this time, it was summer weather and shopping with a girlfriend who knows the city. Sarah, the designer behind GRAMMAR, was the perfect tour guide showing me all the beautiful shops to peruse.
The trip was mainly focused on shopping, coffee and eating, my three favorite ways to explore a city. Read on for where we shopped, snacked and grabbed tea/coffee:
Shopping
We kicked off our shopping in Midtown, an area I’m quite familiar with–where the flagship Shinola shop is located along with City Bird and Nora (love the pet shop Cass Corridog, but didn’t go in this time!) I grabbed a Detroit Rose candle from City Bird and a birthday card, fancy deodorant by Malin Goetz in the fresh scent bergamot and Blackbird incense cones from Nora.
After that, we popped by Cout d’etat where Sarah scored a Rachel Antonoff dress on major sale and I grabbed a new moisturizer–lots of great clothing, accessories and apothecary to shop!
Next, we went downtown Detroit where we visited Le Labo, Madewell, Detroit is the New Black and Good Neighbor.
It’s also worth noting that parking in the Z parking 10 story garage is a must–and never thought I’d say “visit this parking garage” but it features 27 mural artists and it’s magnificent. We drove all the way to the 10th level, snapped some fun pics with the Detroit skyline behind us and by the pink doorway.
I also didn’t have time to stop into House of Pure Vin, but it’s another favorite! Stop in and pick up some bottles of wine!
Also worth checking out some of the alleys mentioned in this article, but if you visit Madcap, the Lip Bar flagship location, Good Neighbor, etc, you’ll be able to walk through one of them!
Coffee and Treats
We grabbed iced lattes at Avalon International Breads flagship location along with a quiche, breakfast bar and a chocolate croissant. Scrumptious!
Before we headed home, we stopped by Madcap Coffee, one of my faves from Grand Rapids. Sarah got a fragrant green tea and I couldn’t make my mind up if I should have caffeine so late in the day, but they have great iced lattes! I also really like ASHE Supply Co. and Dessert Oasis for coffee, all located downtown Detroit.
I couldn’t resist a sprinkle ice cream cone from Huddle so I got the chocolate and vanilla twist dipped in sprinkles in a waffle cone. It hit the spot on a hot day of all day shopping and walking.
