My style is usually on a budget peppered with classic designer items I know I can wear for years and years (or at the very least, resell for close to what I bought it for–or more in some cases.) I love mixing a trendier top or dress with a designer bag, mixing all kinds of price points.
Invest in Wardrobe Staples
There are key pieces that I like to spend more on and that’s usually bags and shoes. I don’t prioritize jewelry or really anything else unless I come across a great thrift find or secondhand find like I have in the past (hello, vintage Dior top that I loved in my early 20s!) Or something on major sale.
The goal is to choose items that you know you’ll get a lot of wear and use out of it, bringing that cost per wear lower and lower. Plus I think a quality bag elevates any look even my ratty graphic tee and jeans looks!
When it comes to key pieces in my wardrobe like leather jackets, I love a variety of quality, but more affordable jackets like this BLANKNYC suede jacket (also its 50% off!) and this splurge-worthy All Saints black leather moto jacket that I wear all of the time.
Spend Wisely on Trendy Pieces
If an item is super trendy like a patent square sandal or a nylon bag, I’d rather spend less to try out the trend rather than spend on a designer dud. So back when backpacks made a big comeback, I bought a beautiful Madewell backpack to see how I liked the bag style and wore it nonstop. I realized that I indeed would use a designer handbag at the right price (and found a used LV monogram backpack!)
And I always shop for sales and keep an eye out for discounts. Take this outfit for example, the dress is a $35 find, but I paired it with designer boots and a bag.
And the camel vest in the last photo was a pricier piece but I waited close to a year for it to go on clearance and I snagged it for $20 from a local shop.
Sales to Snag On Trend + Designer Pieces
The Spring Shopbop sale kicked off today, more info here! Great time to grab a trendy pair of Sam Edelman sandals or buy a Ganni dress you’ll wear for years.
And lots of great designer shoes still on sale at Netaporter. Scoop up these ACNE black ankle boots 60% off or these Alexander McQueen black lace up boots half off–limited sizing left though!
