I’ve been getting Brazilian Blowouts since 2016 and it’s transformed my hair routine and has helped me tame and manage this thick, fuzzy head of hair.
Normally, my hair is curly and frizzy and the Brazilian Blowout smooths out the frizz and softens the curl–if I let my hair air dry, there would be a slight wave and when I blow dry, it’s a much quicker process. But first if you’re unfamiliar..
What’s a Brazilian Blowout?
The Brazilian blowout treatment is a liquid keratin formulas that bonds to your hair to create a protective layer around each strand of hair, sealing the cuticle and eliminating frizz.
This treatment can be used to completely straighten hair or simply eliminate the fuzzies. Up to you! This is controlled by the numbers of passes of a flat iron over your hair. The more your hair stylist passes the flat iron through, the more straight your hair will be. You’ll want to have that conversation with your stylist before you start the treatment.
My Brazilian Blowout Process
I usually get the treatment twice, maybe three times a year. I don’t wash my hair that often so it helps extend the life. I see Kaelyn at Salon 219 in Grand Ledge (for Lansing locals interested!) I usually get my treatment to straighten my hair as much as possible now as it’s the most manageable for me!
The Products I Use to Extend the Brazilian Blowout
I swear by two Brazilian Blowout products–the Brazilian Blowout Acai Deep Conditioning Masque and the Brazilian Blowout Ionic Bonding Spray. I use the deep conditioning masque in place of conditioner whenever I wash my hair and let it sit on my hair for at least five minutes. If you can, leave it in longer (I just don’t have patience.) This helps make my hair smoother and more manageable!
The bonding spray also helps with the longevity of the treatment and I find it helps eliminate frizz when I blow dry my hair, especially around the time I need another one–it’s a great product to hold me over until I get back to the salon.
I also use Unite Hair 7 Seconds Detangler Conditioning Spray–this helps me comb through my hair after washing–much more gentle than I’ve been with my hair in the past!
I also started using Olaplex bonding oil to provide heat protection and also combat against frizz. It’s the tiniest bottle, but you need just a few drops and I concentrate this product at the ends of my hair.
Caviar Smoothing Anti Frizz Spray is my go-to product when I wait too long between treatments. It instantly smooths, adds shine and takes care of flyaways with the light mist. It’s very easy to go over board on this product, so start with a couple sprays! Avoid spraying near my roots or front of my hair otherwise it can look greasy.
