I’ve had irregular routine the last six months when it comes to my wellness and I’ve come to terms with some of the unhealthy habits from overeating to underrating depending on the quarantine time (overeating at the start, not eating enough during and after my move to the new house) and just about all of it lacked balance and a healthy, positive mindset. I’m trying to be a little more intentional about my health and wellness before I go into hibernation mode this winter. Here are a few of plans and ideas:
Get More (and Better) Sleep
It’s the oddest thing..just this year I went from sleeping soundly without ever waking up to waking up constantly. My quality of sleep is shit and I’ve been staying up later and sleeping in later than I’d like. I’d love to adjust this schedule and go to sleep earlier and wake up earlier (like 7 a.m. instead of 7:45) AND sleep through the night. I’ve started incorporating more CBD oil into my nighttime routine and try to drink water and not snack as much before bed–the not stacking part is real rough but hoping to make it a routine!
Cook and Meal Prep
I’ve been ordering more pizzas than I care to admit and I’d like to get in the habit of cooking balanced meals at home instead of eating a frozen waffle and then eat Halloween candy for lunch and ordering a pizza for dinner. Eating balanced meals (protein, good fats AND carbs) keep me full longer and I just feel better with more energy. Which will help me with my next plan..
Improve My Fitness Routine
My pre-covid fitness routine was fitness classes, lifting weights and doing it consistently. And this summer and fall it’s been more about just moving every day, working to reach 10,000 steps and getting the dogs out for longer walks. This has been great for my mental health, but I miss feeling stronger.
I have a home gym that I’ve been able to assemble in the new house and I have all the items I need to get great workouts in, I just need the self control to stick with it! Right now, I use the space three times a week but get bored after 20 minutes with most of that time on the elliptical. I also have a gym membership that I’d like to take advantage of just a couple times a week for leg days where I have more equipment options.
I want to keep my fitness goals realistic to where I’m at in life and that means not nearly as much before. I haven’t been to a FLEXcity Fitness class since early 2020 and I miss that place and I’d like to get there once a week. I just live so much farther from the studio, but I miss the community and accountability there.
Enjoy the Time of the Year
This is traditionally the time of the year when I go into hibernation mode and I’m just going to accept that I will be moving less into the winter months, but I’ll be baking more, enjoying the weather changes and holiday decorating. Usually a week after Halloween I put up my Christmas decorations. They bring me joy so I put it up early and that’s that. And in the new house, I have more space and already bought a second Christmas tree to put up so that I have one in both living room spaces. I’m going to watch all the hallmark holiday movies too!
