Now that I moved farther away from town, have a larger more comfortable home with a dedicated office and a much busier work schedule, I find it hard to escape work and create boundaries.
If I’m at home, I’ll work and I find myself always at home (because I’m a homebody and I love my new house), so I always work. BUT I started incorporating a couple new routines to help break up the work day, which has made me more productive and given me more balance. Read on for my millionth post on the topic and what I’m struggling with currently and how I plan to address those work at-home struggles!
Daily Walks + At-Home Workouts
I’ve touched on physical activity quite a bit the last six months and how it’s helped me maintain sanity, but I also haven’t done shit since I moved to the new house. So now I’m getting back into some semblance of a routine.
I always take James on a morning walk, but these walks have gotten shorter and shorter so my goal is to take longer morning walks, finding a buddy (I have a couple friends who live near me now I can walk with!)
I have a dedicated work out space in the new house, but like I said, I haven’t done a damn thing in that room until last week. This is partially because it was a mess, with half-unpacked boxes and so I spent some time cleaning and organizing the room which made it feel like a space I could workout in. I’ve now worked out in there twice! Now they’ve only been 30 minute workouts with light weights and using my stationary bike for cardio, but it’s better than nothing! I also picked up a free elliptical I hope to get in the room soon and I’ve bought additional weights and kettle bells along with additional equipment to step up my at-home workout routines.
I also plan to do the actual FLEXcity Fitness virtual classes and outdoor classes to!
Get Out of the House!
I try to physically leave this house beyond just a walk with James most days. Whether it’s a grocery trip, coffee run or quick trip to Target, I try to get the hell out of the house for an hour. Now that I live farther from town, I feel slightly more isolated and making plans to leave the house helps.
If I do a coffee run or run errands, I try to incorporate more walking too, parking farther away or stopping on MSU’s campus for a solo walk.
Take Time Off Social Media
I’ve never been good at this, but I’ve found it easier to ignore social media when I’m busy with work and life. So I post less on social media channels and the last month, I’ve posted less on the blog and I’m comfortable with that. It feels nice to be slightly more disconnected and feels like a much better balance. And it took months, but I finally don’t feel guilty if I don’t get a blog post or Instagram post up.
