I feel like I haven’t bounced back to my pre-pandemic fitness lifestyle where I’m working out consistently in the gym, but I’m trying so hard to get there and there are a few things that make me feel better. Overall, I’m trying to rest better, eat better and be more present so here are some habits and goals that I’m proud of!
Sneak in More Steps
I may not be running on a treadmill, but I fit in extra steps and longer walks in my everyday life. I always, always park in the back of the grocery store and I actually like walking in stores so for example, I’ll walk most aisles instead of beelining it straight to the few items I stopped in for. I also walk the dogs everyday but I’m trying to extend the walks by a few more blocks or sneak in an extra walk at dusk when it’s a little cooler. Over the years, I’ve prioritized comfort in my footwear too which my feet are thankful for. I love a running shoe for everyday movement. I also just bought the adidas Ultraboost 1.0 sneakers in beige which matches all my tan and neutral workout gear.
Weekly Meal Prep & Pinterest New Recipes
I try to meal prep every week so I don’t have to think about what I’m feeding myself. Now that Rob is back in Alabama, he’s not cooking for me so it’s up to me to plan meals. If I don’t plan meals, I’ll just snack. I love a meal that reheats well like this sweet potato dish or these grain bowls. I cut out extra steps by buying freshly shredded Rotisserie chicken and microwaveable rice. It’s the only way I can guarantee I fit in veggies since I’m not the type to snack on a raw veggie or make myself a salad on a whim.
To Do List & Weekly Planning
Every Saturday or Sunday morning, I grab my planner and look over my personal and work calendar and place all major events, appointments and deadlines in it so I can visually see what the week is going to look like. I often move things around if it feels too busy, so this process has helped ensure I’m not taking on too much or over-scheduling myself. I also update my written to do list in the planner!
Goal Planning
I do have some personal and professional goals that I jot down at the start of the year and revisit each month in my planner. One of which is getting back into a fitness routine because when it’s a routine, it’s like second nature for me to commit to it and I was there this spring, working out at least a couple days a week but it’s gotten away from me again. I also wanted to prioritize international travel since I’ve been nowhere until this year and now I have an Ireland trip in November to close out an amazing year. Another goal has been to fully plan out visits with Rob and me this first semester of school. He’s a professor and marching band director so his schedule is insane, but we’ve planned out our month to month visits through February 2024 so we can make sure we see each other at least once a month.
