It’s only February, but I’ve been feeling tired–physically tired and mentally exhausted from trying to wear something outside of the five things I resort to when it comes to wearing winter clothing. So I took another look at my closet and challenged myself to wear a few things I haven’t touched in months to switch it up!
Closet Purge
One thing that helps reinvigorate me during a style rut is just eliminating clothing I haven’t worn in a year. I feel like it’s pressing the reset button and I can look at the pieces I’ve kept in a new light without the clutter. It also helps me justify buying new items. For example, I just purchased two new coats on sale and now I plan on selling and donating at least two coats.
And once I pulled a few items out of my closet, I saw this vintage fur coat I forgot about and have been wearing it more.
Search Pinterest
Nothing inspires me more than a picture of an outfit that speaks to me and Pinterest has always served as a major source of inspiration when I can’t figure out what to wear or how to style a certain piece of clothing.
Borrow or Trade Something
I love borrowing and trading with friends to give me something new to style! I’ve been borrowing this Chloe backpack from Brooke and it’s made my outfits feel a little more special–and has helped inspire outfits. I finally gave the bag back last weekend and I got a ton of use out of it without having to spend money on a new bag!
Rotate in New Accessories
From a new beanie to sunglasses, making one small update can completely change a look, and it’s a more affordable way to diversify your wardrobe. Berets, beanies, wide brimmed hats, scarves and different boots help change up a look–and they’re what I shop for when I need a little change and inspiration. (If you’re looking for a cozy beanie, these cashmere blend beanies are 40% off and my favorite hat brand is Lack of Color.)
Try Wearing Something New or Different from Your Personal Style
Try a new silhouette, color or find something in your closet you’ve been ignoring. I personally have been wearing only jeans or leggings and I need a dress to switch it up. This time of the year in Michigan I’m usually too cold and lazy to style a dress with the appropriate layers, but I have so many pretty ones just sitting there, waiting to be worn! I also would like to incorporate more color beyond creams, beiges and rust since it’s what I keep wearing.

Yes, yes and yes! I always find myself wearing a black sweater and black leggings during winter – how boring. Definitely going to be a wardrobe purge and try and dress cute again! ๐
