I’ve always been the type to press snooze at least three times and roll out of bed with 15 minutes to get ready and out the door—a feat I easily completed every day for work. I’d rush and get ready, throw something on, and grab something on the way out the door for breakfast.
But as I started taking my health and wellness more seriously, I realized the benefits of waking up a little earlier—and how this has actually given me more energy during a busy workday.
What things that have made my mornings better? Read on.
Work Out First Thing!
I used to solely work out at noon, but with a busier schedule and more client meetings, I don’t have the time to work out, shower and return to work quickly— so I’ve transitioned most of my workouts to early morning. I typically wake up around 6 a.m., head to the gym around 7 a.m. and get back around 8 a.m.
Jumpstart Your Morning with the Right Fuel
I love a cup of coffee with vanilla almond milk and something with a lot of protein to kick off my day. If it’s not a quick protein bar, I’ll make myself a stack of protein pancakes—enough for that morning and the following morning! I usually top them with peanut butter and sit at my dining room table with my laptop—checking some items off my to-do list early in the day while eating and sipping.
I don’t have much patience to wait long for coffee either, which is why I’ve been using the NEW Starbucks® Plus Coffee Blonde Roast K-Cup® pods at home. It’s quick and the new K-Cup is packed with more caffeine includes 2X the caffeine compared to one pod of Starbucks® K-Cup® black coffee. I love the extra caffeine!
I snagged the Starbucks® Plus Coffee in Target’s coffee aisle with my mom a few weeks back. I went in for just a couple items and left with a cart-full per usual. Anyways, I was pumped about the additional caffeine in the Starbucks® Plus Coffee as I could use the additional energy boost first thing in the morning to last me throughout the day. Buy now at Target!
Take Time to Unwind
Besides working out in the morning, I like to make time to take James on at least a mile walk through the neighborhood, finish a book to reach my monthly reading goal or catch an episode of whatever series I’m re-watching. It’s wonderful to have that time in the morning to relax and not stare at my computer or phone!
Complete One Quick Chore at Home Before You Leave
I typically find myself overwhelmed with chores once I return home after work. Laundry, dishes and dust accumulate and I just never seem to have enough time to address it all. But I found if I make time to do at least one chore at home each morning, my clothes are clean and folded, rooms are picked up, and my kitchen is clean! I generally try to do one thing I don’t want to do for cleaning and then do a general pick up around the house. This usually includes picking up shoes, random articles of clothing that I find hanging on dining chairs and going through stacks of mail on my counter.
I feel so much more productive, happy and accomplished now that I’ve fully adjusted to the new routine. And now I naturally wake up before 7 during the weekends, giving me more time to relax, drink my Starbucks® Plus Coffee and eat a quick breakfast before I hit the gym and tackle my freelance work.
Just $9.99 when you buy any 3 Starbucks® Plus Coffee K-Cup® pods (reg. $11.99 each!) Aug. 19-25!

I’m so bad with breakfast in the morning. I find myself waking up last minute all the time, so I usually just grab a piece of fruit if I can, then rush out the door! I need to change that! 🙂
