For as long as I can remember, I’ve coveted funky and fun coats and jackets. I remember wearing a faux fur coat as a child and was devastated once I grew out of it–and now you can find me tackling the outerwear trends trying everything from fur to puffer to leather with glee.
Living in Michigan, coats and jackets have always been my staple wardrobe item to help survive the transition to cooler weather in style.
2019 Outerwear Trends
Many of these trends are building off recent years, which makes it easy to make what you already own work or slowly add a couple more into your wardrobe to update your fall/winter looks. Everything from shearling to puffers are in, but with slightly different twists that modernize it for now.
Shearling + Sherpa
I’ve slowly started to hoard shearling and sherpa (and the faux variety) the last two years. My most recent fleece/sherpa addition is this H&M pile jacket with the high collar. I’m wearing a size medium for an even more oversized fit, but I think this coat does run slightly big.
I also love the color and toggles on this shorter faux shearling jacket and the long version of the jacket and the caramel color and silhouette of this shearling coat–the perfect teddy coat!
I own this faux shearling moto jacket in tan and love it in black, and on major sale.
Oversized Puffer Coats
I’m fully on board the puffer coat trend like this H&M puffer hooded jacket that’s just $60. This Free People jacket is super fluffy and oversized AND it’s on sale.
For a longer style, this quilted jacket is beautiful and equally functional. And this one is the biggest and longest version, so warm and cozy!
Rocker Leather Styles
This isn’t super rocker leather jacket style, but this jacket with the faux fur lapels still is edgy and cool!
I love this suede jacket style and this brand–I own several of these!
This is a super affordable faux leather jacket option, just $68.
