Prevention is the name of the game when it comes to Botox. I tried it the first time last August and realized what little I needed erased my fine lines and will keep them from becoming more noticeable. I also went into my first appointment hoping to paralyze a muscle on my forehead that I’ve developed from years of scowling. I constantly looked like a had resting bitch face. And it worked!
HTF does Botox work
I never knew how Botox worked exactly until Terry Selgo, R.N. at the Urban You explained it to me before my appointment. Botox is used to medically treat muscle conditions and cosmetically remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing muscles. It’s the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment–more than six million treatments of Botox are administered each year. Basically, everyone knows this shit is gold.
My Thoughts on Botox
The actual procedure is rather simple and painless. A couple pokes and you’re done! In comparison to other injectable cosmetic procedures, it’s the easiest. I don’t have much to compare it to, but it’s a lot easier and less painful than lip filler and no numbing cream necessary. Terri walked me through areas she identified that could use a little Botox and it was quick and painless. I also appreciate that she has an assistant. This makes the procedure much more seamless.
The hard part for me is justifying doing it every three months as that’s as long as Botox will last. I will probably space this out more since I only have a few fine lines. For my fine lines, I used around 20 units of Botox, which is around $200ish. I’d rather make a smaller investment in my fine lines at this moment in life and stretch out my visits a bit.
Injections with Friends
My friend Ashley has been getting Botox injections for close to five years as she has a few fine lines on her forehead and glabella she’d like to erase–and keep from becoming deep wrinkles. She’s been a great support and I learned bringing a friend along makes the whole experience more fun. I appreciate her support and humor on these trips and the fact that she’s not judging me–and I’m not judging her! We’ve made a lady date out of our last two trips to the Urban You, grabbing dinner or coffee to catch up.
