I usually feel the bohemian vibes come spring, but last Saturday with the sunshine and 50 degree temps, it felt enough like spring to me, and reason to wear more color.
Weekend Hermit
Half of last week and the weekend I spent inside my house helping my new foster Josie get acclimated to me, James and my home. The new fosters are always distressed the first couple days and I make sure I can stay home with them to help them adjust.
This is always stressful and mentally exhausting since it throws me outside of my routine and my comfort zone. With Josie, it’s not just about medical issues, but behavioral issues for not being properly socialized and most likely suffering from abuse.
Caring for the New Foster Dog
She appeared to be quite aggressive and fearful, especially of men and so it’s been a process to be more patient and react to her in a way that’s helpful, not harmful for a dog that’s been abused. And last Saturday was the hardest.
She desperately needed her paws trimmed as the fur prevented her paw pads from touching the ground and she had no grip and her nails were so overgrown, they were digging into her paw pads plus extensive matting especially on her ears. Another volunteer who is a professional groomer drove over from metro Detroit along with another local volunteer who’s much more experienced, came over to help her nails and fur.
It was a 2.5 hour ordeal and I cried so much as she cried, bled and tried to escape. But the most miraculous thing happened. After such a terrifying experience, Josie was back to being a happy dog. She followed me around, cuddled with me and was able to go up and down my hardwood steps with ease.
Making a Little Time for Myself
So after three days of being homebound working with Josie and getting her through the partial groom, I left home for a couple hours to head to Old Town. I had a reason to put real clothes on, meet up with my friend Brooke and catch up! I went back home after running a few errands feeling an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and ready to tackle the next obstacle with Josie.
Making the Most of the Springy Winter Day
I had my eye on this colorful, floral mixed print tunic from Retail Therapy and finally got it a couple weeks ago! I imagined I’d have to wear it with thick leggings and layer a heavy coat overtop to make it work weather wise, but lucky me, we had such beautiful weather, I didn’t even need a jacket.
Free People tunics give me that same bohemian vibe like this patchwork tunic or this Free People navy tunic that’s 55% off–wear with jeans or leggings!
