My friend Ashley and I have had every intention of making time to travel around Michigan this summer to document our favorite sips, eats and shopping in varying cities…Then we blinked and it’s suddenly August and we’ve only covered one town. We set some time aside to make a day trip to Ann Arbor and share our experiences and favorite spots.
Read on for a list of places we visited and a few of my standby favorites for coffee, food and shopping:
Tea and Coffee in Ann Arbor
Lately, I’ve been craving another London Fog tea from Teaspressa. I get mine iced and it’s the perfect blend of lavender, milk and earl grey tea. I first visited Teaspressa in Scottsdale this past spring and then realized their only other location was in Ann Arbor–and I’ve been back twice! This was the first place we stopped at in town and Ashley ordered the iced matcha.
I also love Lab Cafe, one of go-tos in town for an iced latte and a baked good! This place is pretty busy, but I love to grab a seat at one of the mismatched chairs by the antique looking marble coffee table and relax.
Le Bon Macaron is another favorite for french pastries and coffee. We stopped here as well so that Ashley could get some afternoon caffeine. They have a location in Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor now and they’re both equally Parisian chic and lovely.
Ann Arbor Eats
Ashley and I headed to Sava’s for brunch. I ordered the chorizo and bacon breakfast sandwich complete with an egg, avocado and cheese (and a side salad I ignored.) Ashley ordered the hippie bowl, a healthy, hearty salad mix.
I never get tired of the chorizo burgers at Frita Batidos and their plantain chips are the bomb. Didn’t get a chance to eat there this trip, but was there a couple months ago with Matt, his sis and girlfriend (and they confirmed it’s a local favorite.)
Songbird Cafe is another favorite for a breakfast, coffee and a cozy atmosphere.
If you’re feeling super healthy and trendy, Wilma’s a great option. The space is sprawling with adorable furniture like a bohemian swing, couch and your typical table/chair set up plus a bar that wraps around the front window. You can buy a juice or carbonated water from the refrigerator or get something made to order like a smoothie or sandwich, plus coffee and more.
Shopping!
Local bookstore Literati is one of my favorite stops in Ann Arbor. It’s a beautiful store with loads of natural light and a coffee shop attached.
Kerrytown Market & Shops is another great place to pop by for shopping and food. Check out FOUND and V2V.
Dear Golden is a beautiful vintage store right next to Le Ben Macaron. Definitely worth popping in.
Bivouac sells a mix of men’s and women’s clothing along with camping gear. Seems like a typical outdoorsy store until you walk in and they have everything from Patagonia to Rag & Bone to Kiehl’s skincare line.
