The snow has already started in Michigan taking me from suede boots and maxi dresses to winter boots and heavy coats. Too soon, I told Mother Nature, but she’s relentless.
And so now I’m transitioning to the next season. I’m all about leggings or stretchy jeans, oversized sweaters and outerwear with statement boots that keep my feet warm and dry. Read on for my top outerwear and boot picks:
Functional, Fashionable Outerwear
I love big, bulky, warm coats that makeย me look like a P I M P. This one here gives off abominableย snowman vibes–keeps me warm and looking super extra. I love this pink faux shearling coat, and while it’s fitted, I’ll go up a size or two for that oversized look. And if you’re looking for an almost moto-like, cropped faux fur jacket, this Free Peopleย coat in a rusty brown is a stylish option on a cold, winter day.
Functional, Fashionable Boots
My go-to boots for winter weather are these Marc Fisher shearling boots I bought last winter and so far, they’re proving to be a staple this winter as well. If you like a more combat boot, heeled style boot, this Marc Fisher version is similar to mine AND on sale.
For a more casual option, these Sorel waterproof bootsย or their short snow boots could easily be an everyday boot this fall/winter.
I used to be anti-Ugg, and then I realized how warm and functional they are. I snagged a pair of black Uggs to blend with my black leggings which will most likely be half of my lazy winter uniform. And I love the Koolaburra by Ugg line, especially these classic tall boots, on sale now. It’s a little more affordable, but the sameย quality.
Recreating the Look
I rely on skinny jeans this time of the year, and generally avoid skirts and dresses–I hate layering tights/nylons and throwing on just one layer on the bottom makes all the difference in efficiency and functionality for me.
Skinny jeans are easy to tuck into winter boots and pair with any of my many oversized sweaters. I generally order up a size or two in sweaters, same as I do with coats, and I get that cozy, billowy look.
I love winter because of the accessories–especially hats. I reach for beanies on super cold, snowy days, but this wool hat is super functional, keeping snow out of my face and adding a little more interest to my neutral outfit.
