Normally on weekends, I hang on to my typical routine: work out first thing in the morning, go home and take it slow for a bit and then continue on with any plans I may have scheduled later on in the day. But last weekend I made a few sacrifices and went outside of my rigid routine to do some volunteer work.
Taking a Step Outside My Routine
The days were long and mentally exhausting and I haven’t worked out in three days. It really trips me up to do something outside of my routine and I feel like I’ve had a three day hangover from lack of sleep, too much stimulation and social interaction.
To better explain, I sat on the nominating committee for the Michigan FFA State Officer candidates. We completed one-on-one interviews with 15 people, observed them during every social activity and breakfast/lunch/dinner break, completed interviews with the entire nominating committee that I could tell tripped up some of the students since the questions were so hard, group interviews giving the students a problem to solve and observing their teamwork and presentations and Sunday we had them complete extemporaneous public speaking individually and then had to select where students were slated, and not all could be slated.
To mentally recharge, I gave myself boundaries. I had to travel up to Traverse City to get some work done but I didn’t make plans to visit friends since I really needed that time to myself and I even had 3/4 of a hard cider and some delicious pasta. I knew I couldn’t be around people the rest of the day on Sunday and that a long nap was also necessary even though I hate naps. I’m keeping my time up here low key and it’s a much needed respite after being “on” for so many hours over the course of the weekend.
The Look
I overshared my weekend since it’s relevant to the outfit photos–it’s what I wore yesterday for the final day of officer interviews. Everyone wore suits and I interpret professional dress a little differently. The first day I wore a layered sweatshirt tunic dress with leggings, Saturday I wore an oversized blazer with wide leg pants and Sunday I wore this fun maxi with a long cardigan and bad ass boots.
I thought about pretty heels each day and even tried them on with each look, but the wearing a tougher boot always makes a look a little more edgy and a little more me.
I plan on styling this maxi dress from Elodie Boutique again soon, but wearing it as a duster! With the buttons, you can unbutton it and toss it over a tank and jeans (I tested this at home and loved how it looked!) I appreciate an article of clothing that can I easily style different ways with ease and this will be a great piece to take into spring.

That’s a lovely dress, very classy but the colourful stripes give it a more interesting look and make it not look so boring. And the boots definitely give it an edgier vibe which really suits you.
