For years I was anti denim shorts until I found the right styles that make me feel comfortable. I’m 5’4″, thick thighs, hips and a flatter booty which is hard to shop for but once I found Agolde denim, my opinion changed and I embraced a denim cut off and started to test more brands. Read on for a break down of my favorite styles and thoughts on Agolde, American Eagle and Old Navy (the only three brands I own in denim shorts.)
AGOLDE Denim
Alright, covering my favorite denim line first. They’re a little pricy, but once I discovered the Parker style three or so years ago, I felt incredibly comfortable in shorts. The Parker style are high waist, short but loose in the thigh area. I have these in every wash they’ve probably been released in because I love them so much. I also have them in size 27s and 28s so when I’m between sizes like I usually am, I can grab a pair that works for my weight fluctuations. Wearing a size 28 below.
Just a side note, I tried the Dee shorts on and for my body type, they just fit too tight and uncomfortable and haven’t tried the new Riley shorts yet!Next up is the newer style of the Parker, called the Parker Long and surprise, they’re little longer. They ride up my butt more than the original style for some reason, but worth it for the longer inseam and slouchy fit. Wearing a size 28 below.I just got the Reese style. I got these in a 27 after reading reviews they ran larger and you could size down, but NOPE they’re definitely too tight and ride up my ass. I find I don’t size down in these at all with my body shape so beware of when someone says to size down in this brand.
If you like this style, but want to spend a little less, check out the Levi’s mid thigh shorts. They come in a couple washes and colors. I usually go up a size or two in Levi’s.The longer style below is the Rumi mid length short. I bought these last summer and boy, I feel just so comfortable in these and the longer shorts are definitely on trend so I don’t feel like a grandma. They seem to be sold out and not restocked, but this AGOLDE style is very similar.
Old Navy
I have a couple pairs from Old Navy, but the longer inseam shorts are my go-to. If you like the look of the Agolde Rumi but not the price, this is the perfect alternative. These too!
American Eagle
My exact styles I bought the last couple years aren’t available, but these curvy mom shorts are so close to what I have in black. So comfortable and covered! Great if you have thighs. And these black distressed shorts are similar too, high waist and roomy in the thighs. Plus they’re on sale.
Additional Style to Check Out
I used to wear the One Teaspoon shorts quite a bit too–most styles are too short for me now, but I love how loose they are around the thighs!
I also have to mention the Blank NYC denim shorts–they’re a great price, got some stretch and various styles to select from. The current styles are a little short for me, but if you like a comfy shorter short, this brand is a great pick.
