I’m a millennial, defined by her love for skinny jeans and laugh emojis–but I have been itching for a new denim style that’s equally as comfortable and maybe slightly more flattering.
Specifically, I was on the hunt for at least one new pair of faded black straight leg jeans. A jean that looked modern and cool, but included some stretch and a high waist line that’s more flattering on my body type.
Some details: I’m 5’4″, 140 pounds and I’m shaped pear-like with wider hips and no shoulders. I also have a flatter butt so I’m always trying to find a higher rise denim that looks good on my waist, but doesn’t flatten my butt out!
So here’s ALL the details on the jeans I bought with a review, plus what I kept/returned and MORE styles to shop:
The Straight Leg Black Denim Review
Agolde Riley jeans: These high rise ankle length jeans are my kind of perfect denim. They have the rigid denim look, but with plenty of stretch. No distressing, just faded black. Kept these!
Old Navy high waisted sky-hi straight raw hem jeans: These BLEW MY MIND. I had very low expectations because it’s been years since I last tried on Old Navy jeans and I didn’t like them then but these compete with Agolde and premium denim lines. I love the stretch, the fit and quality of the denim. Plus the price can’t be beat. I got mine on sale for under $30. Kept these and been wearing them just about everyday.
Agolde Wilder straight jeans: This pair has vintage vibes with the distressing and rips. This pair is a true mid rise and ankle length, but I prefer a higher rise. Returned!
Good American good classic ripped high waist jeans: These are so so flattering with the high waist, stretchy denim and the fits everything like a glove, but not too tight! A little distressing and ripping in the left knee and full length, not cropped. While I loved these, I did return them since I didn’t need three new pairs of black jeans.
I love my Good American jeans, especially this pair which isn’t a straight leg, but skinny ankle length in a faded black.
Agolde Toni mid rise jeans: I wanted to love these jeans. I thought they looked good on and did good things for my butt with the lower rise (says midrise but definitely more low rise to me.) I love the cropped, chewed hem too. Just wasn’t comfortable with the rise so I sent these back! The look of these appear to be the most perfect pair of jeans. It’s a heavyweight stretch denim, cropped length with a mid-rise. But to me, the jean fits more like a low rise. Loved what these jeans did to my butt, but I felt a little too exposed and ultimately returned them.
