It’s finally my favorite month: October! The temps are dropping, the leaves are changing color and it’s time for me to do what I do best and layer up. I’ll be dressing in comfy layers, boots and outerwear and this is what I’m packing for visiting wineries and shopping in Traverse City:
What I’m Packing
I’m packing one pair of jeans, a pair of leggings, two cardigans and two graphic tees along with a sweatshirt and pajamas. Keeping it minimal since it’s just a weekend trip but I’ll also have options depending on how I’m feeling.
And I’m packing two pairs of shoes: Golden Goose sneakers and my new Fendi boots! Boots are always a necessity for me when visiting northern Michigan in the fall/winter and for more affordable options I love Dr. Marten’s and these black Chelsea boots ($1o off right now!) The other sneaker brand I wear on repeat especially for travel is New Balance–I just bought a new pair of 574 New Balance sneakers that instantly feel broken in!
For bags, I’m bringing one large tote (the Louis Vuitton neverfull) which I like to use for road trips to pack snacks, iPhone chargers and my laptop inside of along with one purse that I’ll use during the weekend for shopping, eating and exploring. If you’re on the hunt for a leather tote, I love the Madewell totes and the leather backpacks.
For outerwear, I’m packing my oversized leather jacket and my camel coatigan, both that are super versatile that I can wear with the hoodie, tees or sweater. I plan on packing one knit beanie too!
Packing Tips
For weekend trips, my goal is to pack minimally with items that I can easily mix and match. I generally have an idea of an exact outfit I want to wear, but if the weather or my mood changes, I can mix any of the tops and bottoms up. I also pack graphic tees since they go well with everything I wear!
I also type/write a packing list along with writing out my outfits for each day. As a control freak, I love having the outfits outlined before I leave and this way I don’t forget anything or overpack.
I also like packing cubes, especially for longer trips. Since this trip is short and the few things I pack are quite heavy and oversized, it didn’t make sense but generally I like to pack my workout gear in one cube, my bras and underwear in one and even pack my outfits by cube! Here’s the $20 set I bought from Amazon last year.
Pack for comfort and the items you most wear at home! I’m packing my favorite leggings, jeans and sneakers because I know I’ll feel comfortable as these items are what I wear on repeat at home.
