Thanks to years of school, fall always feels like the start of a new year to me. And now it’s become the start of a new me–a little refresh wherever it’s needed ย and this year, I wanted a fresh hairstyle that was slightly lighter than I’ve been sporting all summer long. I’ve also made a few additional routine updates and incorporated new products to complete this mini refresh:
The Hairstyle
I had been itching for a mini makeover and knew a cut slightly outside my comfort zone paired with some lighter locks would help me feel a little rejuvenated.
I’ve mentioned this before, but husband/wife Beth and Jason are the power couple behind this head of hair and both work with me to determine the best cut and color for my skin tone, face shape, level of maintenance and of course, what I’m comfortable with.
Jason cut my hair last month–a lot more texture and fringe and I love it! And then Beth refreshed my color last week, adding baby lights and freshening up my balayage and toning the color to perfection. They both work at Douglas J Okemos and I highly recommend them both! I also just got my Brazilian Blowout last month from Kaelyn at Salon 219–she’s a pro at making my hair smooth! My hair is finally healthy, easy to manage and I have the the look I’ve been wanting for years.
The Hair Products & Accessories
To style my hair, my must-have products at the moment are Brazilian Blowout deep conditioning masque (smoothes my hair and have been using ever since I first got a Brazilian Blowout three or so years ago.) I also love Unite 7 seconds detangled leave in conditioner. It’s the first thing I spray in my hair after I towel dry my hair. And now I’ve added the Olaplex No. 7 bonding oil–it’s a heat protectant and hydrating/repairing oil. Because I have so much hair, I definitely use more of the product than directed, but a little does go a long way.
For hair accessories, I’ve suddenly gotten into hair clips like these–they’re great for pulling up half my hair or just my bangs and no leave kinks like my hair bands do. Also a fan of this barrette and clip set with pearls and tortoise shell clips. These small hair accessories make such a difference in updating my look.
The Skin
I’ve been meaning to book another Derma Sweep with Anesthetics Med Spa in Lansing–For $75, Jennifer vacuums out my pores and it’s just a great way with zero downtime to refresh my skin.
Beyond that, I’m keeping the skin treatments low key this fall and planning to do more this winter. But, my skin routine has been much improved incorporating this $9.80 rose hip seed oil and the Tula eye brightening and cooling balm. My overall beauty look is “less is more.” More focus on the skincare and less make up.
