I’ve been in a style rut lately, struggling with styling looks for holiday parties. I keep wearing the same black and grey pieces and I’m bored out of my mind.
But I’ve been eyeing these beautiful pieces from Retail Therapy with lush velvet and a silky, billowy silhouette with fun colors and prints. And I feel renewed and ready to wear even more color now. And I haven’t quite figured out yet if Matt and I have a reason to look cute on NYE or be cozy bums, but I’m looking for inspiration for both.
Velvet Touches
Velvet is a classic winter fabric and it’s a subtle way to update your looks for winter. Like this velvet accordion skirt–a perfect, flattering choice for holiday parties, NYE and more.
I also love this flattering velvet wrap midi dress in red or navy and this burgundy velvet gown for more upscale occasions this season. My colleagues are all headed to the governor’s inauguration ball, which will require gowns and fanciness, which is not my cup of tea, but if I were to go balls out, I’d chose that velvet gown.
Print Mixing
I’m forever a fan of animal print and so glad they’re back on trend again and easy to find chic new printed dresses like this snakeskin mini dress. It would be perfectly styled with black over the knee boots as the model is wearing. For more of a boho vibe, this patchwork maxi dress appears to be effortlessly stylish and comfortable. And I just adore this polka dot fitted maxi dress. You could add a pop of color with a jacket or add printed heels, like leopard print to finish the look.
Cozy PJs and Layers For if I Decide to Not Try at Holiday Parties and NYE
Cozy, forgiving leggings and a sweatshirt tunic combo is my go-to for days I want to look slightly pulled together, but get away with being in pajama-like clothes. And I have this weekender pullover in camo but love the striped version. Or go full pajama mode in a set like this flannel jogger pants and flannel pullover combo, currently half off. And the best way to top off any cozy athleisure or pajama look is to toss over an oversized cardigan as an extra warm layer.
