I’ve spent my winter months shivering away in the comfort of my home and now that we’re finally getting a little sunshine and warmth in Michigan, I’ve been planning my spring adventures in and out of state.
I’ve got a trip planned to Atlanta, Mackinac Island, possibly Michigan’s upper peninsula and more local travel coming up. And recently I was out of town for almost three weeks in Mexico, the Detroit area and then a trip to Nashville and Lexington. These spring time travels reinvigorate my spirit and the travels ignite fresh style inspiration. My most recent trip inspired this look: a bohemian style with lots of texture.
And with all the recent traveling this season, I’ve learned a thing or two about packing spring essentials!
Spring-Must Haves + How to Pack for Your Next Trip
The most important spring essential with traveling is acquiring and wearing the right shoe. I’m all about finding that sweet spot of comfort and style and these Hush Puppies Gabbie Woven Slip-ons are the easiest and most comfortable slip-on shoes I own. I packed these for my most recent trip and slipped them on with jeans, leggings and this dress. I’m never one to completely dress up, but I loved the idea of styling something a little more playful for a night out in Nashville.
The next spring travel essential I recommend is light, wrinkle-resistant clothing or anything that isn’t high maintenance and needing ironing like this bohemian dress. This dress or similar tunics and tops are idiot proof when it comes to packing. I just roll everything up and stack it nicely in my suitcase!
My number one tip for packing for any trip is to create a pack list. Whether it’s typed or handwritten, these lists help me remind me of everything I need for a trip and calms my travel anxiety! I also create a secondary list of the outfits I plan to wear. I try on the outfits I plan to wear in advance and try to style looks that contain pieces that mix and match well with other outfits I’m planning. This helps cut down on over packing and again, helps me have a clear plan for packing and styling myself on a trip.
My second tip with packing is to make the most of the space in your suitcase. If you’re ridiculous like me, you want to travel with hats. If this includes air travel, I pack my hat(s) inside the suitcase and stuff the inside of the hat with underwear and tees and carefully packed rolled up clothes around the hat to protect it—it works perfectly! When I’m traveling by car, I make room in the back seat to set out my hats and additional accessories I can grab on the go in the car.
My Spring Adventure Look
I styled this look for my first evening out in Nashville two weeks ago. Usually when in doubt, I rely on outfit formulas that are tried and true for me. This is either an easy, effortless dress with cool shoes or jeans and a leather jacket combo. And in Nashville, I tend to dress a little more boho.
Getting ready for this night out was easy too. I just unrolled this dress from my suitcase, skipped the iron and slipped on the Hush Puppies—and of course, added a hat. It was a fun look for a delicious BBQ dinner, live music and a stroll through Nashville’s Midtown neighborhood.
