When I moved into this house, I had almost nothing for the “formal living room” as I placed my old living room furniture into the family room. I knew I wanted it light and bright, comfy with lots of texture and here’s where my initial ideas took me!
One of the big things I did is remove the heavy curtains (still working on new curtains and curtain rods) and repainting the room a warm white to brighten up the room (the color is Sherwin Williams Pearly White in satin.)
Read on for details on the room and where I splurged and saved:
The Living Room Splurge:
The splurge in this space was my grey couch. I’ve never invested more than $400 into a couch so I thought it was time to identify a couch that fit my aesthetic AND be just as functional so I worked with Brad at Bradly’s Home and Garden in Lansing and he showed me several great options and I chose this one. (They work with clients all over the country so you can work with them no matter where you live.)I love the light grey tone, the fabric is meant for high traffic and easy stain removal and most importantly, the dogs and I love it.
The CB2 leather pouf wasn’t a big spend and I got in sale, but more than I’d normally spend but I know I’ll use this forever.
Affordable Living Room Picks
The black leather chairs are vintage and I scored them at a local antique shop April’s Antiques. Shop similar chairs here and not a bad price!
I scored the coffee table at West Elm on major clearance since it was previously a display piece. I was ready to splurge on a coffee table from West Elm but the ones I wanted were on back order until October, but it worked out since I saved so much and I love this wood coffee table. It pays to go to stores in person! But $300 full price isn’t bad either!
My rug is from Amazon and just $80. I originally picked a more expensive rug, but the two month backorder became three and I ran out of patience and canceled my order, ordered this one and got it in two days.
I got the gold lamp and black and wood accent tables from Homegoods!
My media console was another Amazon purchase that I love.
The faux leather pillow covers are also from Amazon and the textured pillow is a sale find from Target. Love this neutral pillow too!
Artsy Pretty Pieces from Local Designers + Shops
My two vintage-like posters are from Aviator Jayne, an adorable shop in Owosso. I loved the price of these and how much space they took up on the wall. They’re beautiful!
The ceramic dish on the coffee table is by local ceramicist Debbie Carlos and the glass beads and coffee table book are from GR shop the Counting House. You can shop similar glass beads by a highly rated Etsy seller too!
The plants and plant vase are from the SHUDIO, my friend’s store in Chicago! And before photos:
